“350 years of family farming”, so far that is: quite an achievement. My uncle and aunty have been researching the family history for years.
In the late 1800’s six farming families arrived from Cumbria. My family settled at Mobbs Ward in Warwickshire. Then early in the 1900’s Granddad came to Mears Ashby. Now we are at Earls Barton, just one mile from where dad was born.
“My name is Isobel and welcome to Scotch Lodge Farm”.
Previously a beef farm we also have sheep, Laying Hens, Herbs, Soft Fruit and some vegetables. Bob and I opened a small farm Shop in 1988 and our current premises, beautiful Norwegian log cabin in 2000.
We try to make as many of our own products as possible, so as to ensure control over ingredients many items are gluten free and nearly all are free from preservatives and additives.
Alongside 3 week hung mature beef, lamb, pork and free range eggs, we also boast a well stocked wild game section. At Christmas time we have Bronze Turkeys which are wonderfully moist and very popular. My cousin rears them for me every year and also offers geese ad cockerels.
Our farmhouse pie department is absolutely huge with 12 varieties of beef, 8 chicken, 6 game, 3 turkey and 14 fruit. We sell these not only at the shop but at all the farmers markets we attend.
Our widest gluten free range consists of our homemade sausages and burgers, which are made by ourselves with the very best of ingredients. Whilst pork is our biggest seller we also produce such variations as pork and red pepper, beef and horseradish, lamb and carrot, turkey cranberry and venison.
Our bacon we import from Richard Woodall in Cumbria and our great selection of smoked fish comes from Inverawe in Argyll. Many of our cheeses are local and we are pleased to say 99% are British.
I have to say that there is always bad press about ready meals, but what about good ready meals? Ours are all made from ingredients and recipes that you would use yourself at home. Our dishes range from cottage pie to beef stroganoff and for dessert jam sponge and custard, roulades and trifles.
My grandma’s recipes are so popular and with Christmas pudding, mince pies and pate the festive season can be very special indeed.
The height of the summer shows over 100 varieties of herbs and lavender plants for your garden.
Inside we have culinary herbs, teas, infusions, tinctures, oils and coffee beans.
The gift area includes beautiful handmade Belgian chocolates, craft items, toys and cards all with a country theme.
And what about our pets? We have flower remedies, pet food herbal sweets and shampoo to name a few.
Light refreshments are available whilst shopping or to take away.
We do hope to see you soon
